During past time, hydrochloric acid was processed from vitriol and common salt, and was called Muriatic Acid or Spirits of Salt. It is a highly corrosive and strong mineral acid and finds usage in major industry applications as a chemical reagent in large-scale production of vinyl chloride. In addition, it has numerous small-scale applications as well, which includes household cleaning, production of food additives and leather processing.
